We are very excited to have a Harrison West neighbor will show her passion for dance through her traditional Indian performace. Below she shares more about her journey as a dancer and how she currently likes to spend her time.

I was born in Bombay, India & trained in classical Indian dance from the very young age of 8. My passion for dance led me to pursue it further & I graduated from Bombay University with a Masters degree in Fine Arts, majoring in one of the classical Indian dances- Bharata Natyam. After immigrating to the USA I was actively involved in the cultural scenes of Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo in Ohio & also in Toronto, Canada where my husband was undergoing training. I was then intermittently involved with the cultural scene in Columbus while raising three children. Now that they are adults I have once again resumed my passion for this art form. Most recently, I have worked on a fusion of Eastern & Western performing arts by choreographing Bharata Natyam dance movements to Big Band music performed by the Famous Jazz Orchestra conducted by Vaughn Wiester.

Currently, I am pursuing another passion of mine, of being a volunteer tutor at the Columbus Literacy Council since September 2013. I help with adult literacy on various levels from starting to read & write the English alphabet, helping to improve grammar & conversational skills, to basic math education & basic computer skills.
